Chief Operator, Ultrasonic Rail Testing

Job Description:

As an Ultrasonic Testing Technician, you’ll have the unique opportunity to traverse the country’s expansive rail network, helping to ensure the safety of the nation’s infrastructure one journey at a time. Whether you’re uncovering flaws in the heart of a busy metropolis or navigating rugged terrains in remote regions, every mile travelled will safeguard communities and leave a lasting impact on the transportation industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, calibrate and test equipment.
  • Calibrate, test, and interpret ultrasonic equipment.
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect defects.
  • Establish NDI techniques and calibration standards.
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Maintain test result reports.
  • Identifying and investigating compliance issues.
  • Maintain records and statistics.
  • Conduct quality audits.
  • Conduct component defect investigations, examinations and tests.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments.
  • Provide clients with information.
  • Develop quality management and quality assurance standards.
  • Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Verify equipment’s efficiency.
  • Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Instruct and supervise trainees.
  • Participate in training of other workers.

Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Certificate
  • Previous experience in quality control and assurance, auditing, and training, ideally in the rail industry, or oil and gas industry.
  • Proven experience operating and maintaining rail flaw detection equipment.
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license.
  • Secondary graduation certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work alone or with a team.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments and travel as needed.
  • Passport or dual citizenship would be considered an asset.

Terms of Employment:

  • Job type: permanent, full-time (40 hours per week).
  • Salary: $40 CAD hourly.
  • Language: English.
  • Travel requirements: extensive travel to Canadian provinces and territories or U.S. states are to be expected.
  • Physical requirements: position will be physically demanding at times. Successful applicant may be expected to work in extreme weather conditions (cold, hot, wet/damp) and safety sensitive/ dangerous environments, including uneven surfaces, in a variety of settings (urban, rural, remote areas). Applicant may be required to lift and push-pull heavy materials and ascend and descend various heights.
